What it actually is
Two road days in Port of Spain preceded by a season that starts on Boxing Day. Mas bands launch the summer before, frontline sections sell out in hours, and the fete calendar runs nightly through January. Turning up without a band and a costume means watching rather than playing.
Road days are Carnival Monday 8 February and Carnival Tuesday 9 February 2027, with Ash Wednesday on 10 February. The season opens on Boxing Day, 26 December 2026. Costumes are sold by individual mas bands, not by any central seller.

Pre-dawn re-enactment of the 1881 riots that Carnival grew out of. Free, and the reason any of this exists.
